The Insurance Information Institute, an industry organization that provides important information to the public, makes these statements on their website at www.iii.org:

The Insurance Information Institute offers tips for homeowners on preventive measures to avoid water damage to your home and its related expenses. These include:
- "Check your downspouts. Remove debris that may have accumulated in downspouts and rain gutters. Position downspouts so that they direct water away from the house."
- "Install gutter guards. Gutter guards are the device used to protect the clogging of the roof gutter so that the water from the roof may flow easily and accumulation of water does not take place on the roof but away from the house."
It is not surprising that gutter maintenance and protection is a highly recommended preventive measure against water damage to your home. Consider these facts:
